360 Degree Beach Panorama by TakeMeToAnotherPlace 360 Degree Beach Panorama by TakeMeToAnotherPlace
My first attempt at a 360 degree panorama.

I shot 11 frames at 17mm to get this, and merged it in Photoshop CS5. The original file is way over 100mb, so I resized it dramatically for upload, and it's still a very long file, but I got the size down to a more manageable 4mb or so.

A few things I've learnt from this that may benefit others.

1. Use a lens hood, the banding in the sky and sunflare would of been partially avoided if I had used a lens hood, unfortunately my hood for my 17-55 f2.8 hasn't arrived yet, so I had no choice.

2. A tripod helps, hand held works but a tripod would cut down on the amount of wasted areas in the shots that need cropping etc...

3. Shoot a very narrow aperture. I shot at f8 and it's still not ideal, next time I'll be shooting at f11 at the widest.

4. Possibly shoot at a narrower focal length. 17mm gets a lot in, but it does cause distortion, and with a panorama like this, why shoot so wide when you can just merge tens of photographs.

Anyway, enjoy and any feedback whatsoever is more than welcome.

Thank you,

Luke.

This is so cool! The colors are awesome, as well as clarity- the glare doesn't really distract, in my opinion, but you never know. Looks like your efforts paid off!

Great job! :)

I know that beach like the back of my hand... And I don't even live there.
You see, we used to have family holidays there, and they were kinda the best days of my childhood. Have very fond memories of the beach and the dunes (swear they were bigger back then, and that's not just 'cos I was smaller). So yeah, I just know them so well. The Pinewoods behind are fantastic too. Where are you from, then? Do you live there?

Well I'm originally from mid Wales, but I recently moved to Bedfordshire, and I was visiting Norfolk for a couple of days, I intend to go back soon too. We were staying at Pinewoods campsite also.

How long since you've been to Wells?

Yeah, we stay at Pinewoods whenever we visit (apart from one time when we rented out a nice cottage).
Last time we visited was around a year ago. They were beginning to build a small mariner just across the
road from the campsite, near the Lifeguard boathouse. It upset me a little, because I'd hate to see Wells
more developed for tourists than it already is. It's one of those places I wish could stay the same forever.
And the dunes have slowly decreased in size over time, what with more and more visitors each year. it's
still enjoyable when we visit, though - the Pinewoods themselves will always be amazing.

I like that last piece of advice. I tried a panorama and it was terrible to splice together due to warping from the edges of the lens.

I'm surprised this one came together so well considering it was shot so wide. CS5 compensates for it brilliantly

The planet photograph is a cool idea, but it's rarely pulled off well, and I think this scene would be lost on it. A shorter scene with more vertical angles etc... Suits that better I think
