360 Degree Beach Panorama

My first attempt at a 360 degree panorama.

I shot 11 frames at 17mm to get this, and merged it in Photoshop CS5. The original file is way over 100mb, so I resized it dramatically for upload, and it's still a very long file, but I got the size down to a more manageable 4mb or so.

A few things I've learnt from this that may benefit others.

1. Use a lens hood, the banding in the sky and sunflare would of been partially avoided if I had used a lens hood, unfortunately my hood for my 17-55 f2.8 hasn't arrived yet, so I had no choice.

2. A tripod helps, hand held works but a tripod would cut down on the amount of wasted areas in the shots that need cropping etc...

3. Shoot a very narrow aperture. I shot at f8 and it's still not ideal, next time I'll be shooting at f11 at the widest.

4. Possibly shoot at a narrower focal length. 17mm gets a lot in, but it does cause distortion, and with a panorama like this, why shoot so wide when you can just merge tens of photographs.
